This is the original color palette of the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES had space for a palette of 64 colors, however, only 52 were used. Above is a rough estimation I did in CSS, with the hexadecimal codes for the colors placed in the color values of the divs. This project allowed me to do a few things. First I was able to play with CSS positioning, which is always a trial-and-error affair for me but now makes much more sense. Second, I wrote much of it using a simple, iterating Perl script that generated the CSS and HTML. Initially I was typing it all out by hand, but that was not a lot of fun. Thirdly, it allowed me to geek out over the NES.
If you want to do art in genuine NES colors, and you use GIMP, I've made a palette you can add. Download it here (right click, save link). Add it the palettes folder ~gimp-2.*/palettes and keep it real.
